This is one aspect of a Family Physician that is so special and unique!!!
Prenatal care, or Maternity Care, is the care provided by a doctor or other healthcare professional for your health care needs while you are transitioning into motherhood. If you become pregnant, you can continue your care during pregnancy with your primary
care physician. We offer prenatal care at all 3 of our Family Medicine locations both in Galveston and Dickinson.
At our Family Medicine clinics you will be educated on healthy habits during your pregnancy, receive all necessary testing, provided counseling if needed, and have the opportunity to develop a long lasting relationship with your physician. You will be
provided with comprehensive prenatal care during your pregnancy and after you deliver. Your new baby can be seen and cared for by the same doctor that delivered
your little bundle. Our Family Medicine faculty and residents believe that this is the true idea of a Family Physician, to take care of your entire family. Our patient’s love the convenience of being able to see 1 doctor for everything their
family needs!
Receiving care while you are pregnant is very important. Beginning your care early helps to ensure a healthy pregnancy and prevents the risk of complications like early labor, diabetes, and pre-eclampsia. Eating a healthy diet and exercise are important
to ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. It is also important to take your prenatal vitamins and supplements like folic acid daily. Make sure to keep all appointments with your physician as they are all necessary. Your appointments will consist
of measuring your blood pressure, checking your weight, measuring your uterus when appropriate, listening to your baby’s heartbeat when appropriate, and performing the necessary tests during your pregnancy. After delivery, you will have the
opportunity to be counseled on and provided birth control, giving your body time to heal.
Each pregnancy is a new experience and no 2 pregnancies are alike. There will be questions as you go and we are here to help you and your newborn baby. So when you become pregnant and your family begins to expand, come to UTMB Family Medicine for all
of your prenatal needs!
