Labor & Delivery

UTMB Labor & Delivery provides a family-centered child birth experience that includes labor, delivery, and recovery for normal and low-risk maternity patients. We also have medical and nursing staff available to care for those patients that are high risk or critically ill. Our team consists of highly skilled obstetric and maternal-fetal medicine physicians, certified nurse midwives, and registered nurses. Our hospital and clinics’ staff members are accomplished, top-rated, licensed health care professionals and experienced administrative staff. We are committed to providing personalized care to every patient that we serve in our facility.

UTMB's Labor & Delivery is currently a 35-bed unit specializing in the care of pregnant women during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum stages of their pregnancy. We deliver approximately 5,500 babies per year.

Newly Renovated Labor & Delivery Suites will debut in late 2011

We're in the final months of a major renovation. We'd love to share our newest addition with you and your baby. Our newly renovated unit will include spacious birthing suites that offer a “family-centered” birth experience, allowing the family to experience the entire birth process – labor, delivery, and recovery – in a single area. These rooms can comfortably accommodate family members and caregivers including physicians, midwives, nurses, and the pediatric team. (more below)

Because safety for mother and baby is always the first consideration, all birthing suites are equipped with everything needed for a safe and healthy delivery. Plus, we've added a few extras to make the event one that is comfortable and easy to share with the chosen loved ones, including convertible sleep chairs, flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom with walk-in shower.

Our newly renovated Labor & Delivery unit will contain:

• 20 birthing suites for labor, delivery, and recovery
• 2 ICU beds for critically ill OB mothers
• 4 bed PACU
• 5 triage rooms
• 4 dedicated OR suites
• Infant secured unit
