Orthopedics - Hand, Elbow and Shoulder
The UTMB Health Orthopedic department has dedicated physicians that specialize in the evaluation of injuries and musculoskeletal disorders of the hand and upper extremity. The team consists of physicians specializing in Orthopedics, Hand Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Services are provided at UTMB clinics in Galveston, Texas City, Alvin and League City for adults and children.
Because hands, arms, elbows and shoulders are used for so many daily functions, they are especially vulnerable to injury and overuse. Patients often seek care for acute hand and upper extremity conditions resulting from trauma – fractures, sprains, dislocations and separations or for chronic pain in the hand, wrist, elbow or shoulder due to prolonged or repetitive use of the joints, tendons and muscles. UTMB Health is a leader in the specialized care of upper extremities, with customized restoration and rehabilitation services designed to lessen pain, improve strength and regain mobility.
Common treatments of hand and upper extremities include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Trigger finger
- Cubital tunnel syndrome
- Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)
- Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD)
