All patients should familiarize themselves with the benefits of their insurance coverage. You may need to meet a financial obligation if you have a deductible and/or co-insurance or if any of the services you receive are not covered by your insurance
plan. If you have a question about your insurance coverage, please contact Revenue Cycle Registration at 832-632-7445 while you are here at UTMB.
If You Have Health Insurance
We will need a copy of your identification card and insurance information. We will ask your permission to directly bill and receive payment from your insurance provider. It is the patient’s responsibility to provide all insurance information,
including all coverages, at the time of registration.
If You Are a Member of an HMO or PPO
As a healthcare consumer, it is important to understand your plan. Your plan may have special requirements, such as a second surgical opinion or pre-certification for certain tests or procedures. It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements
of your plan have been met. If the requirements of your plan are not followed, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. In addition, some physician specialists may not participate in your health
care plan and their services may not be covered.
If You Are Covered by Medicare/Medicaid
We will need a copy of your Medicare/Medicaid card to verify eligibility and process your Medicare/Medicaid claim. You should be aware that the Medicare program specifically excludes payment for certain items and services, such as cosmetic surgery,
some oral surgery procedures, personal comfort items, hearing evaluations and other costs. Medicare deductibles and co-payments also are the responsibility of the patient. Medicaid also has payment limitations on a number of services and items.
If You Do Not Have Insurance Coverage
A representative from Inpatient Registration will discuss financial arrangements with you. This representative is also available to assist you in applying for Medicaid or other government assistance programs.
Insurance Claims Billing
The hospital is responsible for submitting bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to expedite your claim. A guarantee of benefits or payment due cannot be made until the claim has been processed by your insurance provider.
Please remember that your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, and you have the final responsibility for payment of your hospital bill. We have several payment options available to assist you in paying your bill. As a UTMB
Health patient, you will receive a billing statement for all your health care encounters. In addition to getting a statement from UTMB, patients will potentially receive multiple statements from your healthcare providers. This may include, but
is not limited to, Emergency Room physicians, inpatient hospital providers, and/or anesthesiologists.
Single Point of Customer Service
If you receive care at the UTMB Health Clear Lake Campus Hospital, please be aware that you may receive a statement from non-UTMB service providers including emergency room physicians, hospitalists, intensivists, or anesthesiologists. Any of these
may bill separately for their services. If you have a question regarding your statement from any of these physicians, please contact them at the phone number located on the statement they send to you.
UTMB’s emergency rooms in Galveston, Angleton, and League City are also staffed by independent physicians not employed by UTMB. Fees for the professional services provided by these non-UTMB physicians are billed separately from UTMB Health charges.
If you have a question regarding your statement from any of these physicians, please contact them at the phone number located on the statement they send to you.
You, a family member or financial representative may call the Revenue Cycle Registration at any time prior to your discharge to take care of financial obligations. This may save you some time when you are ready to leave the hospital and return home.
