Ten years of chronic back pain resolved for woman at UTMB Health

UTMB patient Emilia Papavasiliou and pain medicine physician talk though their resolution of a case of severe back pain. Papavasiliou’s pain was due to spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the spinal column that puts pressure on the spinal cord) and sciatica (damage to the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the buttock, hip and leg). Her treatment plan started with physical therapy and pain medication but she ultimately found relief from steroid injections.
