At UTMB Health, our interventional nephrology team specializes in placing, maintaining, and repairing dialysis access sites such as fistulas, grafts, and catheters. If problems like blockages, infections, or poor circulation arise, we use minimally invasive procedures to treat them quickly and with as little discomfort as possible.

Our program was developed under the leadership of Dr. Gerald Beathard, a world-renowned expert often called the “Father of Interventional Nephrology.” Our interventionalists trained directly under Dr. Beathard, and his legacy continues to guide the high standards of care we provide today. We also collaborate closely with expert vascular surgeons to offer complete, coordinated support for dialysis access.
