 Frequently Asked Questions.

  • What is cardiac imaging, and why might I need it?

Cardiac imaging includes tests like echocardiograms and CT scans that provide detailed pictures of your heart. These tools help your doctor diagnose conditions, monitor your heart health, and develop a personalized treatment plan.
  • How can I tell if I have a heart condition?

Signs of a heart condition can include chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, or swelling. If you’re experiencing these symptoms, a cardiology evaluation can uncover the cause and help you get the care you need.
  • Are cardiac imaging procedures painful or invasive?

Most cardiac imaging tests, like echocardiograms, are non-invasive and completely painless. For tests like angiography, you might experience mild discomfort, but they’re vital for precise diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
  • What lifestyle changes can improve my heart health?

Improving heart health starts with a heart-healthy diet, regular exercise, managing stress, and avoiding smoking. Our team is here to support you with practical advice and personalized guidance every step of the way.
  • How often should I see a cardiologist?

If you’ve been diagnosed with a heart condition, regular follow-ups are important to stay on top of your health. For preventive care, an annual check-up is a good idea, especially if you have risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease.

Top 100 in Cardiac Care in the U.S. as recognize by Newsweek and Statista

UTMB Ranked Among Top 100 hospitals for Cardiac Care in the U.S.

The University of Texas Medical Branch has been ranked among the top 100 hospitals for cardiac care in the United States as listed in the 2025 edition of Newsweek/Statista’s America’s Best Specialized Hospitals.

“We are deeply honored to be named among the Top 100 hospitals in the nation for Best Cardiac Care in the 2025 Newsweek/Statista America’s Best Specialized Hospitals report. This marks the second consecutive year that UTMB has received national recognition for excellence in cardiovascular care,” said Dr. Hani Jneid, vice president of Cardiovascular Operations at UTMB and chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. “This distinction reflects the exceptional dedication of our multidisciplinary teams and our unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and patient-centered care.

“With the growth of our new Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and the upcoming launch of the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute, we are proud to be building a nationally recognized Center of Excellence—one that not only delivers cutting-edge clinical care but also advances academic excellence, education, research and fellows’ education,” said Jneid, who also is director of the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute  and John Sealy Distinguished Centennial Chair in Cardiology. “This ranking is a powerful affirmation of our mission and a meaningful milestone in our journey to provide world-class heart care to the communities we serve.”

Newsweek/Statista polled tens of thousands of medical professionals and hospital managers via a nationwide online survey to gather the data used in the America’s Best Cardiac Hospitals 2025 ranking. Their responses were factored in alongside publicly available hospital quality metrics, patient satisfaction scores and patient-reported outcome measures implementation scores. The rankings  were published recently on Newsweek.

“UTMB strives continuously to advance heart health not only for the patients we treat but for cardiac care locally, nationally, globally now and in the future,” said Dr. Jochen Reiser, UTMB president and CEO of the UTMB Health System. “This recognition is a tremendous honor that underscores UTMB’s steadfast commitment to excellence and the promise that our patients are in the best possible hands when they entrust us with their care.”
