Lunch Bunch Health Topic Talks

The Lunch Bunch: UTMB and community experts speak on health topics

Hear great speakers, gain new insights, and enjoy a free light lunch. A great way to take a break in your day. A door prize drawing will be held at each event.

April 8, 2014, The Lunch Bunch presents:

"Alternative medicine: A holistic approach to health"

What is Alternative and Integrative Healthcare?

An evolving method of practice rather than a separate field in healthcare, alternative and integrative therapies focus on patient centered care. Providers from multidisciplinary teams work collaboratively in partnership with the patient for their healthcare. The goal of integrative healthcare is not only the treatment of a specific disease but promoting health, wellness, and the highest outcome for patients.

  • Using alternative or complementary therapies such as physical therapy, acupuncture and other holistic methods
  • Using natural, less invasive approaches whenever possible
  • Integrative healthcare is more than a compilation of treatments or modalities; it is a way of viewing healthcare, often requiring a paradigm shift for the healthcare provider and/or patient

Dr. Victor S. Sierpina joined UTMB’s Department of Family Medicine in 1996. He attended medical school at the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his internship and residency in Family Practice at the MacNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. After completing his residency he did advanced study in Medical Acupuncture for Physicians at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Dr. Sierpina is board certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine. Dr. Sierpina’s loves share his knowledge and experience with his patients, doctors-in-training, and the community. He has a regular column in the Galveston Daily News. His practice includes acupuncture, nutrition, botanical medicine and mind-body therapies.

Miss the last Lunch Bunch?...

We hope you were able to make it to the past Lunch Bunch meetings, but if you were not able to join us watch the videos of the presentations here.

Our audience spoke, we listened.

In May 2012, we began hosting The Breakfast Club, an early morning session to share interesting and relevant health information and tips. You told us lunchtime would be more convenient and easier to squeeze in your busy day, so we've adjusted accordingly. The Breakfast Club became the Lunch Bunch, meeting every other month. Now, we bring you the Lunch Bunch monthly! Join us the second Tuesday of the month on your lunch break, from noon to 1 p.m., for a free light lunch. All sessions are free and hosted at the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes. A door prize will be given at every event. Visit utmbhealth.com/lunchbunch for more detailed information on upcoming topics from great speakers.
