These sessions are not tied to a specific diagnosis - all caregivers and family members are welcome! The hope is that these sessions will provide a chance for caregivers to have “time out” to: relieve stress take time for themselves network with other caregivers build on care giving skills decrease burnout affirm that they are not alone in the role of caregiving. “Time-Out” sessions are facilitated by UTMB staff and students as well as professionals from the community. These support groups are for women diagnosed with breast cancer. We help women at any stage of diagnosis and treatment understand that breast cancer affects them both emotionally and spiritually, not just physically. Our mission is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone. A light meal and refreshments are offered. Stroke Support Group Please join us for the UTMB Stroke Support Group each month in the UTMB Primary Care Pavilion (PCP) in Galveston. Bring family or friends for light refreshment and an opportunity to interact with other stroke survivors and experts in the field. The Support Group offers a variety of topics both for discussion and participation for stroke survivors and their caretakers. Some of the topics and activities have included: Coping skills Nutrition Open dialogue with a care provider Panel discussion with Allied Health Professionals Thanksgiving Social Community Outing to Moody Gardens Representative from Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy, as well as a representative from Nursing are just a few that may be present to support group members. In League City, the group meets on the first Tuesday at the Multispecialty Center at Victory Lakes Town Center, 2660 Gulf Freeway South. Galveston sessions are hosted on the third Tuesday in the Rebecca Sealy Building, at 404 8th St. Use the main entrance and watch for posted signs. The Transplant support groups are open to all pre- and post-transplant patients and their families/caregivers. The meetings are structured around participant needs and interests. A transplant social worker facilitates each group meeting. Sessions include topics such as what to expect from transplant, relaxation exercises, and improving coping skills. GET DETAILS.
