 Frequently Asked Questions

  • How are allergic conditions diagnosed?
Allergists use tests like skin prick testing, blood tests, or patch testing to identify triggers.
  • Can allergies be cured?
While medications control symptoms, allergy immunotherapy (shots or tablets) can change how your immune system reacts, offering long-term relief.
  • How is asthma diagnosed?
Asthma is diagnosed clinically based on a history of variable respiratory symptoms and confirmed by demonstrating variable airflow obstruction on spirometry, with FeNO testing providing supportive evidence of airway inflammation.
  • How is asthma treated?
Inhalers, medications that reduce airway inflammation, and sometimes biologic therapies for severe asthma. Allergen immunotherapy can also be helpful in managing symptoms.
  • Can asthma go away?
Some children may “outgrow” asthma, but for most people it’s a long-term condition that can be controlled with the right treatment plan.
  • What is immunology?
Immunology is the study and treatment of conditions that involve the immune system, including allergies, asthma, and immune deficiencies.
  • What is immunoglobulin replacement therapy?
It’s a treatment that provides antibodies (immunoglobulins) for patients whose bodies can’t make enough to fight infections.
  • How do I know if I have an immune deficiency?
Frequent infections, infections that don’t get better with standard treatment, or a family history of immune disorders can be warning signs. An allergist/immunologist can take a detailed history and perform blood testing to help determine how well your immune system is functioning.
  • What’s an oral food challenge?
It’s the gold standard test for food allergies, done under close supervision to ensure safety.
  • Are biologic therapies safe?
Yes, they are FDA-approved and used for patients whose conditions aren’t controlled with standard treatments. Patients are monitored during therapy.
