UTMB Health Transgender Care

UTMB Health provides care for a diverse patient population. We would like to highlight resources for transgender and gender nonconforming patients and individuals seeking care. There are several clinical avenues available to assist patients in a variety of gender related services, including offering four different clinical avenues for gender-affirming hormones.

Patient Navigator

For your privacy and convenience, our providers have days and times dedicated to providing transgender care, HRT and related services. Services are offered at multiple locations. Please call for information and to schedule at a place and time suitable to you.

Patient Navigator Savannah Parks, M.Ed., LBSW “(she/her/hers)” is available to assist patients in the LGBTQIA+ community with access to quality health care in an accepting, supportive environment.

Savannah can help guide LGBTQIA+ patients and their families navigate the health system, assist with locating resources and help connect patients to providers comfortable with LGBTQIA+ needs, including evaluation for transgender hormone therapy and LGBTQIA+ family planning.

Savannah is also a point of contact for referring physicians. She can be reached at 409-266-7542 or lgbtqnav@utmb.edu, Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Services Offering Gender-Affirming Hormones

Gender-affirming hormone treatment is used in transgender patients to reduce characteristics of their natal sex and induce those of their desired sex.

Endocrinology

Services provided: gender affirming hormones (above the age of 18 years old, both masculinizing and feminizing).

Primary Care

Services provided: gender affirming hormones (above the age of 18, both masculinizing and feminizing), menstrual suppression, primary care services.

For patients without insurance: 
St. Vincent’s Student-Run Clinic 

Services provided: gender affirming hormones (above the age of 18 years old, both masculinizing and feminizing), primary care without gender affirming hormones

Services provided: Facial plastic surgeries

Services provided: Chest masculinizing and feminizing (sometimes called “top” surgery)

Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN)

Services provided: Hysterectomy, oophorectomy, menstrual suppression, pelvic pain, contraception, family planning, and other gynecologic needs.
