UTMB Health Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP)

Transforming Healthcare through Collaboration, Quality, and Patient Experience

Overview

UTMB Health participates in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), a national program from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that rewards accountable care organizations (ACOs) for improving quality and lowering costs while keeping patients’ Medicare benefits the same.

CMS Medicare Shared Savings Program Overview

What is an ACO?

  • What is an ACO?

An ACO (Accountable Care Organization) is a group of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers who agree to work together to coordinate care for people with Medicare. The goal is to help patients get the right care at the right time while avoiding unnecessary services.

Additional Services

How do I participate in the MSSP?

If you receive regular care from a UTMB Health primary care provider, you may automatically be included in UTMB’s Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). No forms or enrollment are required. MSSP uses Medicare data to align patients with providers who deliver most of their primary care, or you can choose your Primary Care Provider. Your Medicare benefits stay the same.

How will you benefit from UTMB’s participation in MSSP?

MSSP helps UTMB coordinate your care so that your doctors share information and work as a team. Our care managers can help schedule appointments, review medications, arrange transportation, and support your recovery after hospital visits.

Benefit Enhancements / Care Coordination

While MSSP does not include the same waivers as ACO REACH, UTMB care teams offer patient-centered services such as follow-up calls after discharge, help coordinating home health care, and connections to community resources.

Questions?

For questions about MSSP, talk with your UTMB doctor or care team. You can also visit the UTMB MSSP Public Reporting page to learn about program performance and participants.
