Urology Team


Urology faculty members have diverse areas of specialization, ranging from laser treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia to prostate ultrasound. Below is a list of current faculty members and their interests:

Dr. Joseph Sonstein
Joseph Sonstein, M.D.
Assistant Professor

Dr. Sonstein is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urology.  He graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Psychology.  He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and stayed on at UTMB for residency training in Urology.  His current areas of research include prostate cancer screening, urethral stricture disease, and comparing outcomes of robotic versus open surgery.  His areas of clinical interest include robotic surgery, reconstructive urology, as well as general urology.


Dr. Susan Tarry
Dr. Susan Tarry, M.D.
Assistant Professor

Dr. Susan Tarry is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urology. She attended medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia, where she also did her residency in general surgery with specialization in urology. Her areas of interest include minimally invasive urologic surgery including robotics, laparoscopy, endoscopic stone treatment, percutaneous stone treatment; erectile dysfunction including penile prosthesis; male, female genital reconstructive surgery; and urologic oncology. She also performs research in simulation training in robotic surgery.

Dr. Sidney A. Worsham, III, M.D.
Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Sidney Worsham attended medical school at University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. He did his residency in urology at Southwestern Medical School. His area of interests is general urology

Urologists are experts in the surgical and non-surgical management of the urinary and genital systems in males and females. As part of the Pelvic Health and Continence Center at UTMB, urologists provide comprehensive
treatment using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment.
