  • Referring a Patient to UTMB Burn Center

    If you are referring a patient from another hospital, please contact the UTMB Patient Placement Center to coordinate the transfer at (800) 962-3648.

    Refer patients to our Burn Center if they experience any of the following:

    • Second-degree burns covering more than 10% of the body
    • Third-degree burns of any size
    • Burns on critical areas (face, hands, feet, genitalia, perineum, major joints)
    • Electrical burns, including lightning injuries
    • Chemical burns
    • Inhalation injuries
    • Burns with preexisting medical conditions that may affect recovery
    • Burns combined with trauma, where the burn poses the highest risk
    • Patients requiring special social, emotional, or rehabilitative care
