For Health Care Professionals

Throughout its long history, the University of Texas Medical Branch  has provided a diverse and highly skilled health professions work force, nurtured advancements in the understanding and treatment of illness and injury, and been an important source of medical care for patients from throughout the state.

The university’s academic programs in medicine, nursing, allied health and biomedical sciences have conferred nearly 25,000 degrees—supplying more health care practitioners than any other university in the state. UTMB is regarded as a national model for many of its innovative programs in health care education.

UTMB remains a home of continued educational, research and clinical excellence, committed to ensuring better health—and a better life—for the people of Texas and beyond. Part of that commitment entails serving health care professionals in a myriad of ways along the continuum of their careers.  

UTMB recognizes and applauds the importance of colleagues in the health professions and community-based physicians in meeting the health care needs of Texans.

• Physician-Initiated Patient Referrals - Outpatient referrals and interfacility transfers. Physician relations representatives are available day or night, 365 days a year, to provide clinical support services for community physicians and their staff

• Continuing Medical Education - UTcme is a collaborative program of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. With offices in Houston and Galveston, UTcme is one of the largest providers of continuing medical education in Texas.
