    People who are not well informed about diabetes usually don't know that making lifestyle changes can delay the need for medication for as long as ten years. The Diabetes Prevention Program which enrolled thousands of people across the U.S. showed that making healthy changes in diet and exercise controlled high blood sugars and prevented complications at the same time.
