UTMB Health's Department of Plastic Surgery will hold their annual Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day events on Wednesday, October 16. The day will kick off at 7:30 a.m. in Galveston to honor breast cancer survivors at our Jennie Sealy hospital. The event will then move to our newest campus in Clear Lake at 11:30 a.m. featuring breast health information for the community. Activities resume that evening at the League City Campus at 5:00 p.m. with a Myth Busters Q&A on breast health, a BRA decorating contest, and Ladies Night Out featuring vendors and food. It will be a great event to honor those who fought but lost their battle and encourage those still fighting breast cancer.

    UTMB offering free screening mammograms for women Saturday, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16

    Mammograms will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. Vincent's Hope Clinic, 2817 Post Office in Galveston and on Saturday, Nov. 16 at New Vision Baptist Church, 2311 24th Street in Dickinson from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

    The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has been recognized for the third consecutive year for delivering high quality patient care, receiving a 2019 Vizient Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award. The award recognizes top performing comprehensive academic medical centers for demonstrating superior quality and safety performance as measured by the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study.

    New UTMB Mobile Mammography Unit Unveiled in Galveston

    Thanks to a $1.4 million grant from the Moody Endowment, the University of Texas Medical Branch has a brand new, ultramodern, Mobile Mammography Unit that will enable women across the region to have access to screenings for Breast Cancer.

    UTMB Health Breast Imaging designated a "Center of Excellence"

    The hard work and dedication of the breast imaging team has resulted in national recognition. The program has been designated a “Center of Excellence” by the American College of Radiology. UTMB was one of the initial two programs in the Houston area to receive this prestigious honor, and one of the first in Texas to receive the designation.

    UTMB Health earns national reaccreditation for the highest level of breast care

    The three-year, full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, is given only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

    These support groups are for women diagnosed with breast cancer. We help women at any stage of diagnosis and treatment understand that breast cancer affects them both emotionally and spiritually, not just physically. Our mission is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone.
