Mostafa Borahay, MD


Dr. Borahay currently is the co-director of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He earned his MD degree with excellence and honor in 1998. Dr Borahay completed postdoctoral fellowship and residency at UTMB, joined as a faculty member and is currently assistant professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Borahay specializes in robotic (da Vinci), laparoscopic and hysteroscopic gynecologic surgeries. His areas of interest include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding and pelvic pain. Dr Borahay is distinguished for performing single port gynecologic surgery where major surgeries like hysterectomy are performed through a single 2 cm incision. In addition, Dr Borahay performs hysteroscopic and minimally invasive endometrial ablation procedures. Vast majority of Dr. Borahay surgeries (including hysterectomy) are same day surgeries, i.e. they go home same day with return to work typically within 2 weeks.

Dr. Borahay achievements have been well-recognized. Dr. Borahay works have been presented in scientific conferences both in the United States and abroad. Dr. Borahay was invited as a guest speaker for lectures and performing surgeries overseas including, United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey and Egypt. Marquis Who's Who® in the World in medicine has selected his biography for inclusion in the 2011 (28th) Edition. Moreover, Dr Borahay is recognized as robotic surgeon by da Vinci Intuitive.

In addition to Dr. Borahay clinical accomplishments, he is an outstanding teacher. He was awarded multiple educational awards including Willard R. Cooke Obstetrical and Gynecological Society outstanding teacher award in 2010. In addition, Dr Borahay received Golden apple award for years 2007 through 2012. Dr. Borahay takes the extra step to solve women health issues. He received multiple prestigious research awards including grant from National Institutes of Health. Dr. Borahay serves as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals including Reproductive Sciences and Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics. His work has been presented at both national and international meetings. His research has been published in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Borahay has authored and coauthored several book chapters including textbook of gynecologic oncology.
